Nightmare In Detail
I was stuck in this horrible dream and I juuust woke myself outta it.
I had gone to a library to take a quiz for a class. It didn’t look like the CBC library though there were CBC people there. There were also people from church and people I didn’t even know I remembered from high school.
I was in the underground part of the library when the dream made me realize that the...

What do I know of holy?
Addison Road wrote a song that I’m hearing for the first time - “What do I know of holy?”
The first couple lines really caught my attention. “I tried to hear from heaven but I talked the whole time.”
This past weekend, one of the sermons Pastor Zach Cherian preached dealt a little on the idea of prayer. Too often, we end up “talking” with God, just being...

BOUND2ACAUSE Website Design
I’m still not anything close to what people would consider to be a web designer. I love print design and photography - easy things that aren’t dynamic in terms of its backbones. Web design and video are very volatile and they need tooonss of work for things to be perfect. But I love dabbling, so here’s a little dabble at web design!
It was a privilege to work on the website of a...

Leader Servants
Dr. Wootten, prof for my Ministerial Ethics class, made a very intriguing point today:
Servant leader: A common Christianese term describing who we all want to be. Grammatically, ”leader” is in the nominative with “servant” being the adjective. It essentially means that you’re a leader primarily with servant attributes.
This is fundamentally wrong. We’re...

Dreams of a Pastor
I know I’m a big-time introvert. I can sit in my room alone for a whole day and not even feel weird about it. I love alone time when I have no access to the outside world just so it’s me and God.
But I also know that I am also a natural extrovert. I can hang out with people all day and not even feel weird about it. I love being surrounded by people, caring about them, listening to...

Dreams of a Writer
Ok this is scary. It’s one of my most personal and most loftiest dreams.
Before I say anything, I hope you all realize that these dreams are not to stack my talents up and say that I can make something out of myself. It’s really a mixture of what God has placed on my heart prophetically and in my life by introducing basic skills for me to use and develop.
I want to write books. Not...

Dreams of a Photographer
I totally want to be a pro photographer one day. It’s a lot of hard work to get there and stay there, but I love what I’ve learned already and I want to continue to grow.
Primary: Do photography as one of my supplementary careers.
A dream of mine: Destination wedding. It’d be sick to fly abroad and shoot in a foreign and exotic place. I love to travel.

Dreams of the Poor
It’s probably the killer amount of money I’ll owe after college that has created this dream of mine. Someday, I hope to have enough stability financially to give to those who don’t have finances to get through their dreams.
1. I want to help fund a future scholarship for CBC seniors. This fund has been raised in discussion as a dream of some CBC higher-ups and I absolutely love...

The History Segments
Maybe it’s a bit of senioritis or the looming adulthood ahead, but I have been contemplating a lot. About my future, mostly. But in viewing glimpses of my future, I’ve constantly been bombarded by my present, constantly being shaped by my past. So I’m going to put some small segments out there using the tags #thediscoursepast #thediscoursepresent and #thediscoursefuture.

Typography
I don’t get a chance to do much print design anymore, but I loooove doing it. For a recent project - used last week in chapel, I created a fun typography piece that was shown in After Effects. I think my sub-par AEing took away from how cool this graphic turned out, so here’s a look at just the image.

Fall Break
1. I went to Six Flags - St Louis on Sunday with Josh Watts, Zac and Amanda. Really fun and relaxing. Rides were pretty decent.
2. I studied most of the weekend. Got a lot done, but still have sooo much more to do…
3. Had a very fun photo shoot with Nate Garcia and Nate Fellman. You can view those right here: http://on.fb.me/botuWX.

Initial Evidence of the Holy Spirit
The Top Ten Reasons Why I Believe that Speaking in Tongues is the Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit - By CBC Professor, Dr. Vince Medina
I wanted to put this up because it’s a really strong and Biblically-based list.
Because the Apostle Peter Says that it is in Acts 2:16. When the mocking crowd assumed that the tongues speech on the Day of Pentecost was evidence...

Immature Expectancy
Eve named her first son Cain saying, “Here is the man of the Lord.”
God had cursed mankind with suffering as a consequence of the sin Adam and Eve had committed. Although, the serpent was to bring them pain for a prescribed time, God gave them hope of a descendant that would crush the head of the serpent, lethally ending the punishment.
Eve thought that divine man would come as early...

Communion: Belonging to Christ & His Body
That gorgeous Pandora played a gorgeous Underoath song and is now playing a gorgeous Leeland song. Thaaaank you.
But I came in here to talk about something very important. Communion. As usual, I don’t have the theological prowess to powerfully persuade the Church into a revolutionary self-evaluation, but I want to bring to the table a “new” idea with utmost reverence for the...

Social networking diet
I’m still on Twitter and Facebook. You can still send me messages and tweets and whatnot. But I don’t have a Facebook wall, I’m not posting status updates on Twitter, and I don’t get anything sent to my phone anymore.
Why? I just need to not have all that stuff going on right now and indefinitely. I’ve never been addicted to social networking, but I’ve been on...

Internship Weeks 2.5-8.5
Six weeks since my last update. Wow. Since then a lot has happened. Here’s my best attempt at summing it up in any random manner:
The following two Wednesdays after Update 2.4, I led the youth services through worship and Word. On June 2, after the service, the church surprised me with a giant cake for “Intern Josh,” which ended up being the first of five cakes for my 21st...

How could I expect to walk without You when every...
For the past couple days, in the strangest of ways, in the most subtle of His suggestive direction, I have felt a calling to pray and fast. Don’t have an idea of why or how long, but I’ll just follow whatever God’s telling me to do.
Someone drives me to get ready for war as it says in Psalm 144. Someone drives me to declare God to be the Deliverer who will bring me out of my...

Internship Week 2.4
I suppose that Wednesdays will be my busiest days in my career as a pastor until/unless I become a senior pastor in the distant future.
I met with Pastor Keith to roughly plan out the youth curriculum on the calendar and to talk about the future of the youth worship team.
Then I began a horrible search for a game for youth tonight. Fail. After several attempts to look for something that would...

Internship Week 2.3
Monday was a fine day. Pastor Larry and I started off the day going over the music rotation for June. There were a lot of changes that had to be made haha, but it was a great experience learning how to handle large talent pools within a church. Hopefully, my attempts at the July and August rotations will turn out much smoother.
Right after, the staff pastors and I headed over to a restaurant for...

Internship Week 2.2
My career is shaping in front of me. This internship is a model of how my future looks and I believe this unworthy soul of mine basks in the unfathomable grace of God. I glance down at myself only to find myself in the tall shadow of the King of Kings. In all I do, I find that I love what I do, I love to do what He loves me to do.
What a choice of a job field. Criticism will abound, I am bound...

Internship Week 2.1
Sunday’s a’comin’. :)
Yep Sunday came and it was amaazingg. I went to choir practice early in the morning and found out that I forgot that the choir was supposed to wear red haha I was wearing blue. We practiced the special that we were to do for service - Fall Like Rain. It’s a really fun and easy choral piece. My tenor range needs to get back to where it was during the...

Internship Week 1.6
Saturday was our young adults fellowship night. We were situated at a park where a quinceanera was going on so there was loud festive music going on while we volleyballed and barbecued. It was a nice hangout time with the older kids at Chandler First. I was on every losing team when we played volleyball - I’m positive that completely correlates to my lack of skill in this sport - but we had...

Internship Week 1.5
Last thing I updated about the internship was about how Wednesday night youth group went.
I don’t remember much of Thursday. I spent some time with the music pastor, Pastor Larry, because he taught me how to develop a strong worship rotation. I liken it to Sudoku because the church has a plethora of people available to be used for worship teams. Each person has a list of exceptions and...

Internship Week 1.4
Wednesday. What a daayy. Woosh. I did a great number of things. Extremely productive.
Pastor Larry and I went to a food drive location to pick up the stuff we need to make 200 meals to feed the homeless with on Saturday. That took much of the morning. I was able to witness firsthand the affection Pastor Larry has for McDonald’s sweet tea lol. If the rest of the staff pastors are any clue,...

Internship Week 1.3
Tuesday was a work morning for me. We decided that I would learn everything I need to know about the existing church website so that I could work to upgrade it while also reworking the brand identification of the church. The site’s on a much easier platform to work with than the CBC site, so I quickly caught on and already have much of the site redone in terms of the look. We want to add...

Internship Week 1.2
Monday was a great day. I attended my first ever church staff meeting and it was a blast minus the rude interruption by one of those people who lie every time their mouths move haha. I tweeted about the meeting with the super cool pastors and the pastors saw that later in the day and joked saying that I must be interning with another church too :P The three pastors ironed out my schedule and...

A looot happened in the past week, and I don’t like to keep things succinct :P I will help you by dividing the post up by days :)
I left you guys on Saturday with the leadership workshop for the upcoming life groups. On Sunday morning, I went to my home church, International Assembly of God, to greet everyone and let them know about my plans this summer. I was blessed to preach and help out...

The expositional trade: Not just for ministers
“How big’s your church?” “How many people go?” “How many do you average a service?”
How about we never ask that question again. I ask you to refrain from these questions not out of intentions to demote the great value we place on those numbers. I want you to do this because I would rather have you ask two questions in the stead of those questions above.

Equipment not designed for self-preservation
Asking for the power of the Spirit is a dangerous thing. You ask for the strength to go beyond yourself.
You ask God to equip you with the weapons needed…for what? To keep for yourself? To keep within just the church body? To benefit your spiritual walk?
No, that violent storm of the Holy Spirit needs to be released as peace upon the brokenhearted, love upon the destitute, joy upon the...

Internship Week 0.3
This summer is just wonderful so far. Sunny days, the whole family’s at home, I get to go to two churches (just like I do in Springfield lol) and I’m having a relaxing time even though I’m still doing plenty of work.
I started my internship on Wednesday, but it was more like an introductory thing. I won’t really start doing anything full-scale until Monday.
So,...

Internship Week 0.2
Earlier in the morning, I met with Pastor Rakoczy to plan out my summer. I went back in the afternoon and helped set up the dinner for a couple hours for Evangel’s Concert Choir that ministered during the evening service.
We made a brickload times two of spaghetti. Tons and tons of it haha. Had to feed like 60 people. It tasted amazing though :)
And I have to admit, the Evangel choir was...

I haven’t been able to write on this for a while because the CBC dorm Internet blocked it, but I’m back in AZ for the summer and I plan on utilizing my lil blog to the fullest :)

Creative presentation of the Gospel
What’s wrong with taking the rare opportunity when the dechurched or unchurched come through the doors of the church on their own whim to declare Jesus maybe even a little louder and more excellent than usual?
Of course, we have to try to present Jesus in the best way possible all the time. In the way we personally live, in the way our church interacts with our community, in the way we...
